Art, it’s just a three letter word, but it means the world to the most of us – but why? Why do people spend millions on one piece of art? Why are we happy with the sight of art around us? And why do we feel so good if we make art? We believe Art consists out of three core elements: ‘creativity’, ‘emotions’ and ‘self-expression’. And we also believe that these three elements are the basics to a happy life. We begin with the philosophical standpoint that we are creative beings who want to see and use our environment as the vehicle of self-expression which regulates and shows our emotions. This process is the mark of individuality. It is the result of our imagination. It is the mark that constitutes our inner and outer life and it creates our culture, our lifestyle, our ideals and our vision on the world as it is. Creativity as a form of rule breaking A human being relates to his life and his activity in life. We identify ourselves with our creations and our accomplishments, and we alienate if we aren’t able to do so. We want to shape the outside world and express human powers because creativity pervades human life. Some go even further and believe creativity is a kind of madness, an irrationality. Which consists of overly thinking resulting in a vision that makes people able to break down patterns. Creativity thus requires traditions and rules we can break. Since rules are socially constituted, creativity is essentially social. An example of this we can find in street art, where walls are used instead of canvasses. This as a form of critique on the society, and therefore deliberately visible, because most street art has a message against the structures as we know it. Most street art has a different style then the classic arts, and this too can be seen as a form of rule breaking. In short, creativity is a form of irrationality only possible by those who see with their minds rather than with their eyes. It’s almost spiritual and it’s definitely sociological because art requires the creativity of thinking outside the box, it requires the ability of being able to act as the mirror or counter mirror of the society with its ideas and ideals. Art constitutes our identity Selfies are probably the best example to show how important self-expression is to us. And self-expression is self-awareness put into an external form like photography, writing, acting, dancing, painting, singing, sculpting, designing and so on. We are all creative and we all need to express ourselves, but it can be done in a million ways! Art is a way to represents our identity. With the art we make or the art we like, we send a message to other people. From the music we like, to the clothes we wear, to the furniture in our houses. Essentially art is the exterior form of culture. We feel art has a primary link to our selves, and to how we see and present ourselves in this society. The same artwork would look different in the eye of the beholder if it’s made out of oil painting, watercolor, markers or graffiti. The same musical composition sounds different if it’s performed by a classical orchestra or if it’s made electronically on synthesizers. Also the setting is important, the same painting can be judged differently if it’s shown in the MoMa in New York or if it’s for sale on an affordable art fair in Japan. The form and context of art represents the form we want to give to our identity and the way we perceive society. We aren’t always aware of the structures that constitute our society, and we aren’t always aware of the structures that constitute our identity’s, but they exist and they are shown in our cultural preferences. It is said that the best kind of art is the art people can relate to, so we are convinced your favorite artwork has a link to your identity and emotions. An example of this can be found in our preferences in music. Some people like different genres, some prefer classical music above folk music, or drum and bass above techno, or R&B above pop music. Whichever one you choose, every preference has a lifestyle. With lifestyle we mean a way you act to one another, the way you dress, the places you go, the hobby’s you have, ... This also works the other way, where some psychologists and doctors encourage self-expression trough art as a way of teaching coping techniques and as a way to form an identity. How art can be used to act as the mirror of the individual with its ideas an ideals. The language of emotions Many artists reflect emotions in their artwork, or they hope of creating an emotional response in the viewer. This is very personal and very difficult to pin down. Which emotion someone evokes with their art is not conclusive. Art is a sensory experience through the eyes, ears or other senses, and it’s these senses that help grasp the meaning and content of an artistic work. Art is also being called the philosophy of healing since it can make an impact on the personality itself through the human feelings. This is something very special since an artwork can raise genuine emotions in the viewer. Through these emotions and feelings art can inspire us and make us more humane. Art therefore creates, intensifies or deepens a ‘personality’ within a person. Art is not only a mirror of the society and the individual, it also gives both an expression and acts as a way of communication. Why we make art
Art is a very personal process of imagination, everyone has it but only some of them can make a living out of it. Every artwork is made for a different reason, but every artwork comes from within. Still, we believe everyone has a bit of an artist in his or her heart, passive or active. With passive artists we mean people that love listening to music and have collections, looking at paintings and think about them for weeks, feeling sculptures and seeing the form in everything, playing an instrument or dance for a hobby or sing in the shower and make their own versions of it. We all have imagination, we are all creative and we all want to express ourselves through emotions. With active artists we mean people that produce music, make paintings, create sculptures, compose as professional musicians or sing in front of an audience and communicate with us on a deeper level and - if Lucky - make it their profession. To whatever category you belong, you are creative in your core. Art is deeply personal, and its deeply social. With art we are just doing what we feel we are born to do. So dance to the music you love, sing to the songs you like, visit the museums you find interesting, wear the clothing that suits your personality best, buy the art that touches your heart or mind, share it with us and most of all never stop being creative! Therefore we welcome you all to this website where we can all agree that Passionate Art Resounds The Soul.
